US “backs’ Bangladesh public, urges a “peaceful” transition

WASHINGTON: The United States (US) Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller expressed support for the people of Bangladesh amid ongoing unrest.
In a press briefing on Monday, the spokesperson welcomed the announcement of a transitional government. He stated that adhering to Bangladeshi laws was vital during the power transfer.

Miller said that all parties needed to avoid further violence and reiterated that the US stood with the Bangladeshi people. He stated the significant loss of life in recent weeks.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid has resigned and fled Bangladesh following violent protests and numerous deaths. She escaped to India by military helicopter before traveling to Finland.
The army had given her a 45-minute ultimatum to resign.
