WEB DESK: Steve Hwang, a senior executive at Snap Inc., is leaving the company following a series of employee complaints lodged against him, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Hwang, who served as the Senior Vice President of Partnerships and Strategy, had been with Snap for over a decade.
The complaints, which began to surface after Hwang assumed leadership of Snap’s partnerships and content division in February, detailed several concerning incidents. Among the grievances was a comment Hwang made about frequenting a street food cart in New York City known as “Bin Laden’s” many years ago.
Additionally, there were reports of an inappropriate conversation with a female employee regarding her rape whistle, and allegations that Hwang appeared intoxicated while interacting with clients at the Cannes Lions advertising festival in France last month.
According to The Verge, Hwang informed his team of his departure earlier this week. In an internal memo, he expressed his intention to spend more time with his family.
When approached for comment, Hwang declined to provide additional details but released the following statement: “I am grateful to Snap for the incredible career and learning opportunities I’ve had over the past decade. I have truly enjoyed working with such an amazing team, and I look forward to my next chapter.”
Snap has not yet issued a public statement regarding Hwang’s exit.
