LONDON: A UFO sighting in the Andes Mountains of Chile in 2010 has garnered renewed attention as experts re-examine an image that appears to show a glowing orange object hidden behind clouds.

According to Dailymail.co, the National Aviation Reporting Centre on Anomalous Phenomena (NARCAP) initially investigated the sighting, but it’s now back in the spotlight as part of a documentary exploring unexplained phenomena.

An expert in physics from the University at Albany has declared the object “truly unidentified” and a “genuine UFO.” The image was taken during the day on a Sunday, capturing the sun shining through white clouds and a band of reddish clouds to the left, encasing a glowing orange object with “interesting surface details,” according to the NARCAP report.

The image’s story dates back to February 14 2010, when a family spent a day at the El Yeso Reservoir. After snapping 16 photos of the scenic surroundings, the mother noticed the reddish clouds with the mysterious object.

The Chilean government shared the photo with NARCAP, which conducted an extensive analysis and published a 23-page report in 2010.

Now, more than a decade later, the case has been reopened. While some suggest the object could be a result of the prism effect – caused when the sun hits ice crystals in the atmosphere – not all experts agree.

Meanwhile, meteorologist Juan Hernandez and physicist Matthew Szydagis believe the object remains genuinely unidentified, emphasising that the term “undefined” does not imply extraterrestrial origin.

The mystery surrounding the Andes Mountain UFO continues, with ongoing efforts to explore and understand the phenomenon.
