WED DESK: Instagram is now exploring the integration of selfie videos in the DM Notes. This addition is aimed at enhancing the connection between users and their notes, introducing a dynamic and interactive element to this already popular tool.
With this new feature, video notes bring an animated dimension to the notes shelf, potentially making them more eye-catching and encouraging increased engagement. Instagram users will soon have the option to update their default profile photo in DM Notes with a short, looping video, adding an extra layer of personalisation to their profiles.
Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s chief, sees this as a significant addition, especially considering the platform’s popularity among younger audiences. The younger demographic is known for its affinity for short-form videos, and the integration of video clips into notes could further drive user engagement.

Earlier in June, Meta, Instagram’s parent company, reported that over 100 million teenage accounts had shared a Note in the previous 90 days. Teen users were found to create notes at a rate ten times higher than non-teen users, with over 20 per cent of Notes created by teenagers receiving replies.
The inclusion of video clips is expected to amplify this engagement, potentially allowing Instagram to challenge Snapchat’s market share among younger audiences, particularly with the ongoing expansion of encrypted messaging within Instagram.
Instagram has clarified that this feature is currently in limited testing, with plans for wider availability in the future.
