WEB DESK: In a momentous clash, the Pakistani cricket team secured a historic victory against Sri Lanka in the eighth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, setting multiple records.
Notably, Pakistan achieved a unique distinction by becoming the first nation to win eight consecutive World Cup matches against Sri Lanka, outshining India’s record of seven consecutive victories over Pakistan. Following closely is the West Indies, securing the third spot with six consecutive wins against Zimbabwe.

Furthermore, the encounter between Pakistan and Sri Lanka also etched a new chapter in World Cup history, witnessing the highest number of centuries in a one-day match. This milestone equals the records set in 1998 during a match between Pakistan and Australia in Lahore and in 2013 in a face-off between India and Australia in Nagpur. The recent clash between Pakistan and Sri Lanka saw a remarkable four centuries.
Adding to the list of achievements, Pakistan’s batsman Mohammad Rizwan claimed a new record by amassing 131 runs in a one-day match, surpassing previous benchmarks set by Kamran Akmal (124 against the West Indies in 2005), Kamran Akmal again (116 against Australia in 2009), and Mohammad Rizwan himself (115 against Australia in 2019).
