Shahid Afridi welcomes Virat Kohli’s interest in visiting Pakistan

LAHORE: Former captain Shahid Afridi appreciated Virat Kohli’s interest in visiting Pakistan on Saturday.
Afridi made these remarks during a public event in Karachi. He welcomed Kohli, whether as a participant in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) or representing the Indian national team.

The former captain discussed the talent within the Pakistan team. He gave the example of Saeem Ayub’s while admitting that Pakistan needed a strong opener in shorter formats of the game.
Afridi also raised concerns about the treatment of certain players like Muhammad Haris and Sahibzada Farhan. He expressed confidence in Pakistan’s prospects in the upcoming 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, especially for batsmen.
The former captain talked about his recent meetings with fast bowler and son-in-law Shaheen Shah Afridi. The senior Afridi revealed that he advised Shaheen to “remain focused” on cricket.

Afridi’s comments follow a video call between Virat Kohli and Pakistani mountaineer Shahroz Kashif that surfaced online. In the conversation dating back to 2022, Kohli expressed his interest in visiting Pakistan and hoped for bilateral cricket engagements.
