ABBOTTABAD: Former national cricket team captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has abruptly departed from the rigorous fitness camp being hosted in Kakul, heading back home.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Afridi had sought permission to leave the camp due to a family emergency, with a relative falling seriously ill, necessitating his immediate return.

However, whispers within cricketing circles suggest a deeper undercurrent behind Afridi’s sudden exit. Speculation is rife that the talented cricketer might be nursing grievances over his recent removal from the captaincy, which could potentially have influenced his decision to leave the camp prematurely.

However, it may be noted that earlier, the national team’s wicketkeeper, Muhammad Rizwan, and Sahibzada Farhan also opted to leave the Kakul camp citing domestic commitments.

Nevertheless, Afridi is slated to make an appearance at a special Iftar dinner arranged in Rawalpindi on Monday, hosted by the Chief of Army Staff.
