PCB players to get central contracts this week

LAHORE: A boom in earnings is on the cards for the men in green who will take the cricket pitch in the upcoming 2023-2024 year.

Sources confirm that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to present revolutionary central contracts to the national men’s and women’s teams simultaneously in the coming week.

In a meeting scheduled for today, PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf will brief players about the new contracts.

A hefty increase is anticipated in the salaries of the men’s team, as well as a relaxation of the PCB rules that have thwarted players from participating in lucrative international leagues in the past.

Household names such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi could now earn up to PKR 4.5 million per month, more than triple their previous monthly retainer.

The new contracts also depart from custom by dividing players into four categories, A-D, with the abovementioned players landing squarely in the top-ranked A category.

Naturally, cricketers across the board seem visibly pleased with these pro-player developments.

However, the PCB is allegedly not keen on giving players shares in their revenue and image rights.
