ZURICH: Neeraj Chopra qualified for the 2025 Diamond League final in Zurich, Switzerland by focusing on key competitions and skipping recent events, including the meet in Silesia, Poland.
Diamond League qualification system
Athletes earn point across a series of events in the Diamond League season based on their finishing points. Points range form eight for first place down to one for eighth.

The top six athletes in each discipline qualify for the final, where season-long points are reset and a w inner is determined by the final’s result alone.
Chopra’s performance highlights
Neeraj Chopra competed in two Diamond League events this year. He threw beyond 90 meters in Doha, finishing second and earning seven points.
He then won the Paris meet with a throw over 88 meters, earning the maximum eight points.
The results gave him 15 points – enough to secure a spot in the final ahead of the last scheduled meets.

By limiting participation, Chopra gains time to manage his fitness and aim for peak performance at the final in Zurich. This approach contrasts with some competitors who accumulate points by entering more meets but risk fatigue.
Current standings and competition
Chopra’s 15 points tie him with Germany’s Julian Weber for second place. The points leader is Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad and Tobago with 17 points accumulated over three events.
Absence of Arshad Nadeem
Meanwhile, Chopra’s archrival and friend, Pakistan javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, did not participate in this year’s Diamond League series while recovering from calf injury.
