Jorge Costa: Portuguese football loses legendary defender

LISBON: Legendary Portuguese footballer, Jorge Costa, passed away suddenly at the age of 53 from cardiac arrest.
The former captain of FC Porto was serving as Porto’s director of football when he collapsed at the club’s training centre and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A strong presence on the football field, Costa was widely respected for his leaderhisp and defensive prowess. His professional playin career was laregely dedicated to FC Porto, where he became a symbhol of resilience and determination.
Over more than a decade, Costa helped lead Porto to several domestic wins, contributing to an era marked by multiple leagure titles and cup victories.
He captained the team during some of its most historic moments, including European success under the management of Jose Mourinho.

During his tenure, Porto achieved major continental honours, notably winning the UEFA Cup in 2003 followed by the UEFA Champions League in 2004.
