ISLAMABAD: India’s top batter Abhishek has expressed his intent to build on his strong Asia Cup performance and emerge as an even more well-rounded player ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to take place from February 7 to March 8 next year.

The seasoned left-hander played a key role in India’s triumph at the Asia Cup, amassing 314 runs and earning the Player of the Tournament award as India claimed their ninth title. With this win, India were crowned champions of the second-ever T20-format Asia Cup, following their previous title in 2016.

As the World Cup approaches, India is preparing for a highly anticipated clash against Pakistan.

The India–Sri Lanka co-hosted World Cup presents a new challenge for Pakistan, who may once again face their archrivals—this time again at a likely neutral venue, Dubai International Cricket Stadium—if they qualify convincingly through the earlier stages.

The pressure is expected to be heavier on Pakistan, especially after losing all their Asia Cup encounters against the Yadav-led Indian side, including the high-stakes final held on September 28.

However, cricket analysts believe that if Pakistan can withstand the pressure, avoid early dismissals, post a competitive total around or above 200 runs, and utilize a balanced bowling attack—featuring three fast bowlers and two seasoned spinners—they could emerge as strong contenders throughout the tournament.
