Former Sri Lankan Cricketer banned in Australia


Sri Lankan batsman banned

MELBOURNE: Former Sri Lanka batsman Dulip Samaraweera who previously coached the Melbourne Stars WBBL team was given a 20-year ban from cricket roles in Australia due to his “inappropriate behaviour” with a female player according to governing body Cricket Victoria.

Samaraweera, who recently coached women’s teams in the southern Australian state of Victoria and played seven tests and five ODIs for Sri Lanka between 1993 and 1995, breached Cricket Australia’s code of conduct. CA has banned Samaraweera from holding any position within CA or in any associations in Australia.

Cricket Victoria backed the statement with boss Nick Cummins stating that “it is our view that the conduct was utterly reprehensible and a betrayal of everything we stand for at cricket Victoria.”

In regards t the Victim Cummins stated that she “has demonstrated incredible strength of character and courage in speaking up” and “will continue to receive our ongoing support to allow her to achieve her goals on and off the field.
