ISLAMABAD: A delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) concluded their talk with the Chief Election Commissioner on Monday without easing on their demands to hold timely and fair elections.
The Election Commission had invited the JI as well as the MQM-P today in order to consult them regarding the upcoming general polls, following earlier consultations with the PTI, JUI-F and PML-N. The PPP has been invited to appear for a similar meeting on Tuesday, August 29.

At the end of the meeting, Ameer-ul-Azeem, one of the leaders of the JI delegation, reiterated the party’s unchanging stance that elections should be held within 90 days.
“Once the delimitation of constituencies is finalised, the Election Commission should promptly announce the election date,” he stated.
Moreover, the delegation raised their concerns about the possibility of elections not being held in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
JI leader Fareed Paracha told the press that the Election Commission had responded to the delegation’s demands by conveying that their hands were tied as well. “The Election Commission stated: ‘We are also helpless,’” Paracha claimed.
Paracha went on to describe the JI response to the Commission’s assertion. “We reminded them that it is the responsibility of the Commission to conduct transparent elections.”
