Govt coalition agrees to dissolve assemblies on Aug 9

ISLAMABAD: The government allies have reached an agreement on dissolving assemblies on August 9.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, also attended the via video link meeting, which focused on three agenda items, according to sources.

All leaders unanimously agreed and emphasised that the elections should be held on time.

The coalition partners have also agreed that the Council of Common Interests will decide on the issue of the new population census, Geo News said.

Coalition partners asked to finalise name of caretaker PM in two days

The sources said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan has sought more time for further consultations on the name of the caretaker prime minister.

According to sources, PM Sharif has requested the coalition partners to submit their proposals by tonight.

The sources said that during the meeting, Mohsin Dawar also proposed two names for the caretaker PM, while Aslam Bothani recommended the name of a former bureaucrat who served in Balochistan. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Akhtar Mengal, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman did not propose any name.

According to the sources, Akhtar Mengal complained that the PM’s standing committee did not contact them yet, while Bilawal Bhutto expressed reservations about the hurried legislation process.

Earlier, PM Shahbaz Sharif had said that they will send the summary of dissolving the National Assembly to the president on August 9.
