ISLAMABAD: Ahead of the November 24 protest planned by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, the additional deputy commissioner enforced section 144 in Islamabad.
Section 144 will be enforced for two months and prohibits public gatherings of five or more people in order to maintain public order. While section 144 was previously enforced to combat air pollution, its latest imposition comes in response to Imran Khan who called for a protest on November 24.
He was quoted as saying “This will be the day of decision, when it will be decided who will remain in my party and who will not.”

PTI leader Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra responded to the imposition of Section 144 on, stating that “if there is a section 144 ban on protest every time there is a call for a peaceful protest by Imran Khan, then it is the ban that is malafide and illegal.”
The ministry of interior has issued instructions to increase security measures, and has ordered the deployment of heavy security forces to the twin cities. The ministry is also considering whether to cancel the phone number of any individual involved in the protest, as well as cancelling the educational credentials and admissions of involved students.
Sources from the Ministry of Interior also stated that suspicious locations will continue to be monitored to counter potential terrorist threats.
