Sarfraz Bugti eyes election run on PML-N ticket

ISLAMABAD: After stepping down as the caretaker interior minister, Balochistan Awami National (BAP) politician Sarfraz Bugti is expected to move to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to contest elections, local media reported.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has accepted Sarfraz Bugti’s resignation as the latter is planning to contest polls.

BAP leader, in his resignation on December 13, cited personal reasons for quitting the position. Sources report that he had been mulling this resignation for nearly two months, so he can participate in the upcoming general elections.

Bugti is expected to hold meetings the PML-N leadership in the coming few days and also officially announce the change in his political association.

Meanwhile, the search for the new caretaker interior minister has begun as well. The prime minister may retain the portfolio himself if a suitable candidate is not found, or he may also assign it to an existing member of the cabinet.
