Sania Zehra murder

MULTAN: The Multan Police on Saturday registered a murder case against the husband and in-laws of 20-year old Syeda Sania Zehra, who was allegedly raped, tortured, and murdered by her husband, Ali Raza.

The news of young mother’s murder took the social media by storm prompting the Punjab Government to take decisive action against the killer.

An Instagram page with the username @justiceforsaniazehra shared details of the alleged murder.

According to reports, Sania Zehra, who came from a well-known Multan family, succumbed to severe torture on July 8th. According to forensic reports, she was brutally murdered by choking after being raped.

The magnitude of the abuse she suffered was revealed by the investigation: her feet were crushed, her tongue was severed, and her teeth were fractured, providing a graphic account of severe torment.

Sania was the mother of two young boys aged 3 years and 1.5 years. After taking the life of his 5-month pregnant wife, the suspect hung her body from a ceiling fan to make the murder look like a suicide.

The victim’s father, Syed Assad Abbas Shah, claimed in a video that his daughter was killed by her husband for money and property, denying any claims of suicide.

According to the reports a case was registered at the New Multan police station by victim’s father under sections 302 (intentional murder), 148 (rioting armed with a deadly weapon) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The First Information Report (FIR), which unfolded the victim’s father’s complaint against the in-laws of the deceased, stated that he reached his daughter’s residence after receiving a phone call from a police official on Tuesday, adding that he found his daughter hanging from a ceiling fan upon arrival.

It said that a doctor and a forensic expert present at the scene said that the victim had died at 6pm that day.

According to the complaint, doctor said that the victim’s jaw was broken, adding that marks of rope were also found on the feet of the deceased.

It added that palpable signs of torture were also found on the victim’s body as both her eyes, ribs and elbows were badly bruised.

The FIR stated that the victim was five to six months pregnant at the time of her hanging.

It said that the suspect, the husband, had escaped without informing the family of their daughter’s death.

The suspect had lied to the victim’s parents at the time of their marriage that he was already married to another woman, the complainant added.

Sania’s family had filed a case in the family court against the suspect for lying about his first marriage, however, the case was eventually retracted after the victim chose to stay with him after reconciliation.

The husband used to beat his wife and pressured her to sell the house she owned, threatening that he would kill her if the property in her name was not transferred to him forthwith.

The complainant said that his daughter’s murder was being portrayed as a suicide.

Upon the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Finance Punjab Sohail Shaukat Butt and Chairperson Women Protection Authority MPA Hina Parvez Butt immediately rushed to Multan to meet the victim’s family.

Butt assured the victim’s family of complete investigation into the matter, adding that a joint investigation team had already been constituted for dispensing justice.
