LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to fix flour prices throughout the province under a new act while licenses of three flour mills have been cancelled for selling expensive flour.

According to the Punjab Food Department, a notification with the new prices has been prepared.

The sources indicate that the price for a 10 kg bag of flour in Lahore will be set between Rs900 to Rs920. Additionally, a 20 kg bag of flour will be priced at Rs1840 in Lahore.

The fixed prices will be implemented after approval from the Chief Minister of Punjab.

These new flour prices in Punjab will be enforced under the Food Items Act 2024 and the shopkeepers who do not comply with these prices will face legal action.

Meanwhile the Food Department has suspended the licenses of three flour mills for selling expensive flour, in order to ensure the provision of cheaper flour.

Additionally, show-cause notices have been issued to 92 flour points due to poor management.

According to the Food Department, 135 points were checked in Lahore Division, 15 in Faisalabad, 71 in Sargodha, 106 in Multan, 35 in Sahiwal, and 3 in DG Khan.

Food Minister Bilal Yasin stated that actions are being taken against fake records and the supply of expensive flour.

The licenses of dealers and mills supplying flour at high prices will be suspended. The market prices are being monitored on a daily basis.
