LAHORE: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of an intense heatwave set to sweep across Punjab, including Lahore, starting April 13 (tomorrow). Temperatures in southern Punjab are expected to rise 6-8°C above normal, while upper Punjab may experience a 4-6°C increase from April 14 to 18.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia cautioned that nights will also remain unusually hot, with risks of dust storms and strong winds due to extreme heat.
Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabil Javed has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain on high alert. Citizens, especially children, women, and the elderly, have been advised to take precautions, avoid unnecessary sun exposure, and stay hydrated.

Farmers have also urged to take preemptive measures to protect crops and livestock. Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 has been put on alert to handle heatstroke and dehydration emergencies.
The PDMA will set up relief camps in urban areas, providing clean water, ORS, and first aid. Mobile health teams will also be deployed to manage heat-related illnesses.
Authorities further warned that rising temperatures could accelerate glacial melt in northern regions, potentially leading to water surges.
