ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Wednesday adjourned the hearing regarding a plea by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking the relocation of former prime minister from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail.
The case was heard by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq. PTI chairman was represented by his legal counsel, Sher Afzal Marwat.
PTI chief moves SC against IHC order in Toshakhana case
During the proceedings, Marwat contended that there exists no justifiable rationale for detaining the PTI Chairman in Attock Jail. He requested the court’s approval for allowing home-cooked meals and visitation privileges.
In response, the Chief Justice noted that the matter of visitations should remain apolitical, cautioning against unwarranted public presence around the PTI Chief.
Consequently, he directed the Assistant Government Prosecutor to guarantee adherence to the stipulated legal provisions for Chairman PTI’s facilities.
Furthermore, both the federal and Punjab governments have been summoned to present their responses by Friday, thus contributing to the broader legal dialogue surrounding this issue.
Marwat further appealed for an accelerated resolution by the following day. Nonetheless, the decision was made to defer the hearing until August 11.
On August 5, Khan received a three-year jail sentence in the Toshakhana case, subsequent to a conviction by a district and sessions court in the federal capital for “corrupt practices” linked to the state gift depository.
