Projects worth over Rs20.5 billion approved for Sindh development

KARACHI: The Sindh Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved 15 projects worth over Rs20.5 billion, according to the Planning and Development Department.

Out of these, six projects are for the Irrigation Department, two for the Energy Department, two for the Works and Services Department, four for Local Government, and one for Public Health Engineering and Rural Development (PHE&RD).

The meeting, led by Planning and Development Board Chairman Najam Ahmed Shah, approved projects that included construction of an office complex in Southern Dadu worth Rs145.3 million, building Hingorono main and branch drains (Phase 1) for Rs2.5 billion, Rs1.4 billion project to rehabilitate and build a road connecting Khairpur Special Economic Zone to Shah Abdul Latif University, including a bridge over the railway near the Police Training Centre. Electrification and solarisation of villages in Sindh (Phase 1) for Rs1 billion and Rs500 million solarisation project for villages near Karachi is also included.

A major project worth Rs9.42 billion was approved to resettle people affected by encroachments in Karachi’s Gujjar, Mehmoodabad, and Orangi Nallahs. Additionally, Rs745.9 million was allocated to rehabilitate the rain-damaged Nawabshah Saeedabad road.

Other projects worth over Rs five billion were also approved. The chairman directed officials to ensure timely completion for public benefit.

JAPAN’S AID FOR SINDH DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

The Japanese government announced a grant of $95,311 to support development projects by two NGOs in Sindh.

The signing ceremony took place at the Japanese Consulate in Karachi, attended by Consul General Hattori Masaru and NGO representatives.

The funds will support two organizations Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) and Sindh Community Foundation (CSF).

Consul General Hattori Masaru highlighted the importance of these initiatives, stating, “Both organisations will bring positive change and improve lives.”

He also reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting local development and humanitarian projects through its official development assistance (ODA) programme.
