KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has tested positive for Covid-19 and has been placed in isolation, his personal physician Dr Asim Hussain confirmed on Wednesday.
According to Dr Asim, a team of medical experts is monitoring the president’s condition, which is improving.
Earlier, President Zardari was admitted to a private hospital in Karachi due to fever and an infection. However, hospital sources said his condition is now stable.
A team of doctors led by Dr Asim Hussain had conducted President Zardaris medical examination and necessary tests.
Before the medical screenings, Dr Asim had told media that Zardari is suffering from fever and a chest infection, but his condition is gradually improving.
However, after the detailed labs, the Dr confirmed that President Zardari has been diagnosed with Covid-19 and kept under isolation.
Meanwhile, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon dismissed reports about his transfer to Dubai. In a post on social media platform X, he assured that the president’s health is improving and that he would recover soon.
“By the grace of Allah, President Zardari will make a full recovery soon,” Memon stated.
President Zardari had been shifted from Nawabshah to Karachi on Tuesday after falling ill. Due to his condition, he was unable to meet party workers and leaders on Eid at Zardari House Nawabshah.
His medical team continues to monitor his progress as he remains under treatment.
PM prays for Zardari’s swift recovery
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed concern over President Zardari’s health and urged the nation to pray for his speedy recovery. He also directed authorities to ensure the provision of the best medical care.
It is worth noting that President Zardari has not been in good health for several months. He faced considerable difficulty delivering his speech at the Pakistan Day ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, frequently missing words and struggling to read.
