PMLN leader criticizes PTI’s International Court move

ISLAMABAD: In response to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) decision to seek recourse in international courts, former interior minister Rana Sanaullah has strongly criticized the move, alleging that the PTI’s leader is merely a puppet manipulated by anti-Pakistan forces with the intent to tarnish the nation’s reputation.

Sanaullah asserted that the adversaries of Pakistan, along with their operatives, are providing financial support to facilitate PTI’s efforts to involve the international community in besmirching Pakistan’s image.

He contended that the rise of PTI to power has had detrimental effects on Pakistan’s economy and foreign relations, further alleging that the party’s leaders have instilled a sense of animosity among the youth, potentially leading them toward acts of violence.

These comments come in the wake of PTI’s engagement of a British human rights lawyer, Geoffrey Robertson, to represent their leader in a case related to “unlawful detention and human rights abuses.”

Currently, the PTI chief is serving a three-year jail sentence and a Rs 100,000 fine. Despite the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspending the sentence, he remains incarcerated due to his judicial remand in another case until September 13. This additional case was initiated by the Federal Investigation Agency, alleging the disclosure of state secrets under the Official Secrets Act.
