PM Shehbaz forms committee to draft social media bill: minister


ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar has announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, after the approval of cabinet has formed a committee to draft a bill related to social media.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar said that an authority related to digital media is being established. He further mentioned that countries around the world have already enacted legislation concerning digital media. The Prime Minister has established the committee with the approval of the cabinet.

The Minister of Law stated that Rana Sanaullah will head the committee, and he urged those who are criticizing to read the bill first. The committee will present recommendations after consultations with all stakeholders.

He also expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Iranian president and others, stating that the Prime Minister is visiting the Iranian embassy. Both the Prime Minister and the President have conveyed their condolences.
