LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has imposed a Rs200,000 fine on an ice-cream production unit located at Multan Road following a raid that uncovered numerous health and safety violations.
A substantial quantity of unwholesome food was also discarded during the operation.
PFA Director General M Asim Javaid reported that the raid was conducted due to multiple infractions, including the use of expired raw materials, an abundance of insects, dirty walls, and a foul-smelling processing area. These conditions were in clear violation of the Punjab Pure Food Regulations.
Additionally, Javaid highlighted that the unit was using non-food grade and uncertified materials for ice-cream packaging.
“The use of expired raw materials in ice cream poses a significant risk to children’s health,” he stated. He assured the public that the PFA is taking stringent action against any food business operators (FBOs) found guilty of forgery or negligence, as directed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Javaid also urged consumers to carefully read food labels before purchasing to avoid substandard products. He called on the public to support the PFA’s efforts to eliminate the adulteration mafia by reporting any complaints to the PFA helpline at 1223.
