Peshawar board results: 17,420 candidates fail inter exams

PESHAWAR: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar has announced the results of the intermediate examinations, with students from the pre-medical group securing the top three positions.

Anisa Urooj, a student of Forward Girls College (private), clinched first place with 1,145 marks. Hassan Mughal of Peshawar Model (private) stood second with 1,139 marks, while Marwa Qaiser of Jinnah College for Women came third with 1,138 marks.

In the pre-engineering group, Tooba Rauf of Jinnah College for Women secured first position with 1,117 marks. Her fellow students, Atika Laila with 1,112 marks and Aiman Tariq with 1,111 marks, stood second and third respectively.

In the computer science group, Somia Jehanzeb of Peace College topped with 1,132 marks. Ulfat Qazi of Forward Degree College bagged second with 1,100 marks, while Areesha Asif of Peace College stood third with 1,099 marks.

In the arts group, Akram Khan secured first position with 1,070 marks, followed by Hisham Khan with 1,069 and Kainat with 1,066 marks.

According to BISE Peshawar, a total of 62,322 candidates appeared in the FA/FSc examinations, of which 44,902 passed, putting the overall pass percentage at 72. As many as 17,420 candidates were declared unsuccessful.

Breaking down the groups, out of 33,317 candidates in the FSc medical group, 25,794 passed with a success rate of 77 per cent. In the engineering group, 2,103 out of 3,586 passed, recording a 59 per cent pass rate.

In the arts group, 11,603 of 14,893 candidates passed, showing a success rate of 78 per cent, while in the computer science group, 5,402 of 10,526 passed, with a pass percentage of 51.

Speaking at the result-announcement ceremony, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Minister Faisal Tarkai said the provincial government has allocated Rs364 billion for the education sector in the current fiscal year.

He added that further steps are being taken to bring out-of-school children into classrooms and urged communities to play their role in supporting enrolment.
