ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Friday passed a resolution rejecting the US Congress resolution, affirming that Pakistan will not tolerate any interference in its internal affairs.
The resolution, moved by member of the National Assembly, Shaista Pervaiz Malik, called for equal and bilateral relations with the United States and highlighted ongoing human rights violations worldwide, urging the US to take notice of atrocities in Gaza and Kashmir.
Shaista Pervaiz Malik emphasised the importance of national sovereignty. “It is inappropriate for any country to interfere in the internal matters of another. We condemn the serious human rights violations happening globally. Millions of people voted in Pakistan’s elections, and it is unbecoming of a global power to meddle in the affairs of any nation,” she stated.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf backed Sunni Ittehad Council members opposed the resolution and chanted slogans in the assembly, stating that the US resolution could not be called an interference into the internal affairs Pakistan but a genuine demand.

Shagufta Jumani, another member of the assembly, also voiced strong opposition to US interference. “We clearly tell the US to stop meddling in our domain. It’s regrettable when people ride on the shoulders of others to come into power by compromising national sovereignty,” she remarked.
The National Assembly session was adjourned indefinitely following the passage of the resolution.
Earlier on Wednesday, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution raising questions about the credibility of Pakistan’s general election held on February 8.
The US resolution called for a “full and independent” investigation into alleged irregularities in Pakistan’s election, which former prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf alleged was manipulated to deny it victory.
