Pakistan marks International Literacy Day with renewed commitment to education
Navy Day marks the anniversary of ‘Operation Somnath’ on September 8, 1965, when Pakistan Navy ships launched an attack on the Indian port of Dwarka, destroying its radar station and delivering a significant blow to the enemy. During the same war, Pakistan’s only submarine at the time, ‘Ghazi’, maintained dominance in the Indian Ocean, paralyzing an Indian Navy five times larger and securing Pakistan’s coasts.
In a message on this occasion, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf hailed the significance of September 8 as a “golden chapter” in Pakistan Navy’s history, reflecting the eternal sacrifices and bravery of its sailors. He highlighted the Navy’s status as a strong force in the region, continuously enhancing its capabilities with the addition of modern warships, submarines, and maritime aircraft to strengthen the country’s naval defence.
