Over 900,000 Afghans residing in KP: Afghan Commissionerate

PESHAWAR: The Afghan Commissionerate Office while sharing data from the recent census revealed that over 900,000 Afghans are currently residing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province alone.

According to the commissionerate’s spokesperson over 300,000 of them are residing illegally, while more than 600,000 Afghan migrants possess Proof of Registration (PoR) cards.

It was further disclosed that Afghan residents have been implicated in various crimes and illicit activities, including drug trafficking, illegal arms possession, and other offences. “This year alone, 3,911 Afghan migrants have been found involved in criminal activities,” according to the spokesperson.

It was also revealed that 597 Afghan migrants have been arrested in the province while attempting to get fake Pakistani identity cards made.

Furthermore, imams in around 105 mosques within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also Afghans.
