LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to impose a ban on Qingqi rickshaws across the province, including the provincial capital Lahore.

Caretaker Provincial Minister of Punjab for Transport, Livestock, and Mines & Minerals, Ibrahim Hassan Murad, announced that a 30-day warning has been issued to Qingqi rickshaw operators. A crackdown will target illegal motorcycles and loader rickshaws.

Non-registered rickshaws from the Department of Transport will initially face a ban in major cities, followed by smaller cities and rural areas.

The provincial minister emphasized a prohibition on the future manufacturing of Qingqi rickshaws, and manufacturing companies will undergo regularization alongside the registration of Chingchi rickshaws.

Meanwhile, air pollution persists in Punjab, with Lahore maintaining its position at the top of the list of the world’s most polluted cities. Karachi also experienced elevated levels of air pollution.
