ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, new natural gas reserves have been discovered in the Shewa 1 and Shewa 2 areas of North Waziristan.

Mari Petroleum Company has struck natural gas after drilling two wells, which is estimated to meet 5% of Pakistan’s total demand.

The inclusion of this gas into the national system is expected to address up to 5% of the country’s energy shortfall. Initially, approximately 70 million cubic feet of gas per day will be added to the system.

It is noteworthy that last month, new oil and gas reserves were also discovered in the Khairpur district of Sindh.

According to a spokesperson for OGDCL, that marks another significant success for the company in its oil and gas exploration efforts in Sindh.

The statement had further detailed that the well in Khairpur will produce 14.3 million standard cubic feet of gas daily, along with 93 barrels of crude oil.

The OGDCL spokesperson had highlighted that this new discovery is set to substantially reduce the national import bill, attributing the find to the strategic expertise of OGDCL’s specialists.

The latest addition is expected to significantly bolster the country’s oil and gas reserves.
