National Assembly voices support for victims of Los Angeles wildfire

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution expressing support for the victims of the catastrophic wildfire in Los Angeles, United States (US) on Monday.
The measure was introduced by MNA Naveed Aamir Jeeva from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). It received backing from over 13 assembly members.
The resolution conveyed the Pakistan’s parliament’s condolences to those impacted by the disaster and urged international organisation to step in, and provide necessary aid to the affected.

The wildfire has been raging across multiple areas in the state of California. It has proven extremely difficult to contain, persisting for nearly a week, as of Tuesday.
Current estimates indicate that around 40,000 acres have been scorched. The blaze has also claimed the lives of 24 people, with many still unaccounted for.
The wildfire has resulted in the destruction of more than 12,000 homes and structures, and displacing over 200,000 residents.
Firefighting efforts have mobilised substantial resources, with reports indicating that over 12,000 firefighters, 1,150 fire engines, 60 aircraft and 143 water tankers are engaged in battling the flames.
Despite the extensive efforts, the wildfire remains largely uncontrolled.
