ISLAMABAD: Outgoing Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, reflecting on his career, said that while his judgments may not have been liked by everyone, they were always based on the law.

Qazi Faez Esa while addressing the full court reference in his honour, delivered a heartfelt speech in Urdu, expressing his gratitude to all those present at the ceremony.

“I will not discuss law or the constitution today,” he began, thanking Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Farooq H. Naek, and others for their support. He also extended his gratitude to those who couldn’t attend the event.

Recalling his personal journey, Justice Isa spoke about losing his father at the age of 16 and highlighted the influence of his grandmother, who, despite being uneducated, ensured the best education for her children.

He acknowledged the significant role of his wife, stating that she supported him through every challenge. “In my life, my wife has the veto power,” he humorously remarked, adding that every success he achieved had her support.

Justice Isa, who served in the judiciary for over 42 years, shared his experiences from the bar and bench, thanking lawyers for teaching him invaluable lessons. He credited former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry for appointing him as the Chief Justice of Balochistan.

Reflecting on his career, Justice Isa humbly admitted that some judgments might not have been flawless. “Our decisions may favor one party and go against another, but we always follow the law,” he emphasized. He further added with a smile, “Only a few hours of freedom remain for me.”

Justice Yahya Afridi Praises Chief Justice Isa’s Tenure

Speaking at the event, the next Chief Justice, Justice Yahya Afridi, expressed admiration for Justice Qazi Faez Isa, calling him a “remarkable individual” who led the judiciary through an impactful era.

He humorously remarked that if anyone angers Chief Justice Isa, “Only Allah can save them,” but his anger subsides quickly.

 Justice Afridi further mentioned that the Chief Justice has always been a strong advocate for women’s rights and played a pivotal role in strengthening democratic values.

Justice Afridi, in a light-hearted tone, shared that Chief Justice Isa insisted the expenses for today’s luncheon would be borne personally and not by the government. He also outlined his own priorities as the incoming Chief Justice, focusing on improving the district judiciary, particularly in remote areas.

Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan and senior lawyer Farooq H. Naek also praised Chief Justice Isa for his contributions to pivotal cases, including human rights and environmental issues.
