Monsoon rain spell to continue this week: PMD

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a monsoon rain forecast for this week, warning of potential flash flooding due to heavy rains.

The Met Office predicts heavy rainfall on the 25th and 26th of July in Balochistan, upper Sindh, and Punjab. Additionally, a fresh westerly wave is expected to enter the upper regions of the country on the 26th of July.

The monsoon currents are continuously penetrating the country from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.

The federal capital, Islamabad, is likely to experience rain accompanied by gusty winds, while most districts in Punjab are expected to receive rain with thunderstorms.

Rain and wind-thundershowers, with isolated heavy falls, are also anticipated in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kasur, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khusab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, and Waziristan from the 25th to the 30th of July, with occasional gaps.

Furthermore, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Kech, Gwadar, Panjgur, Kharan, Noushki, Washuk, Mastung, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Qila Saifullah in Balochistan are likely to experience rain or wind-thundershowers, with a few heavy falls, on the 25th and 26th of July, with occasional gaps.

In south Punjab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Khanewal, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan, as well as Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, and Karachi, are likely to receive rainfall on the 25th and 26th of July.

The Met Office has cautioned that heavy rains may lead to flash flooding in Balochistan and cause hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan on the 25th and 26th of July. Additionally, from the 26th to the 28th of July, areas including Kashmir, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Manshera, Abbottabad, and Rawalpindi-Islamabad may experience similar conditions.

Urban flooding is a concern for low-lying areas of Sukkur, Larkana, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Naushehro Feroze, and Dadu on the 25th and 26th of July.

Furthermore, heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad-Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Faisalabad from the 25th to the 28th of July. Vulnerable areas, including Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, may experience landslides during the wet period.
