ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has turned down the proposed appointment of Mohsin Butt as Additional Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The ECP, in response to the Establishment Division, expressed its disapproval regarding the appointment of Mohsin Hassan Butt as Additional DG FIA on a contractual basis after his superannuation and posting as DG FIA.
Sources reveal that the caretaker government sought ECP’s approval for Butt’s appointment as Additional DG FIA for a three-month period. However, the commission has regretfully declined the request.

It is noteworthy that Mohsin Butt retired from service on December 31, 2023.
Former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had appointed him as DG FIA in August 2022.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior had assigned the additional charge of DG FIA to Asif Paracha, but this decision was later rescinded.
The situation regarding the leadership of FIA remains in flux, awaiting further developments.
