LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially launched the Chief Minister (CM) Transport Programme aimed at providing buses for girls’ colleges across the province.

The initiative, designed to ease transportation issues faced by female students, kicked off with the distribution of buses to 19 women’s colleges in various districts.

At the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister invited students on stage and symbolically handed over the keys of the new buses to the principals of these colleges. She also inspected the buses and reviewed the proposal for providing air-conditioned buses to the institutions, expressing her commitment to improving facilities for students.

Speaking on the occasion, Maryam Nawaz said, “This programme is part of our broader commitment to empowering women through education. By providing safe and reliable transportation, we are ensuring that girls from all parts of Punjab can continue their studies without any hurdles.”

Secretary Higher Education, Dr. Farrukh Naveed, provided a detailed briefing on the project, explaining that the buses would be delivered to 76 girls’ colleges across Punjab in three phases. In the first phase, buses have been delivered to 19 tehsils that previously lacked transport facilities.

This programme is part of a larger initiative to promote women’s education in Punjab, where the provincial government is focusing on improving infrastructure and facilities in educational institutions.

The inclusion of air-conditioned buses in future phases is also under consideration, to ensure comfort for students during their commutes, especially during the intense summer months.

The government plans to further expand the programme and ensure that no female student is deprived of the opportunity to pursue education due to a lack of transportation. This initiative comes alongside other government efforts to improve educational access and infrastructure in Punjab.
