Islamabad administration launches crackdown against beggars

Islamabad: The federal capital’s district administration initiated a crackdown against beggars, resulting in the arrest of 31 individuals.
According to Islamabad authorities, the assistant commissioners from various areas, including Koral, Lohi Bhir, Shalimar, and Industrial Area, oversaw the enforcement efforts.
During the operation, the arrested individuals were taken to a police station, while minor children found among them were sent to the Edhi Center, as reported by the district administration.

Earlier in May, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan inititaed crackdown against professional beggars in the city. He ordered all the zonal District Police Officers (DPOs) to take strict actions against the beggars by registering cases against them.
During the crackdown, the police detained 34 beggars within two weeks and charges were filed against them.
Furthermore, the IGP Khan urged the citizens to discourage the beggars and give charity to the needy people. He appealed to the public: “You are requested to inform the police through the communication helpline Pucar-15 and join hands with us to curb this menace,”.
