IHC orders prevent re-arrest of Imaan Mazari in any new cases

Imaan Mazari

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a directive prohibiting the authorities from re-arresting human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari in any new cases.

Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb, in a two-page written order, has granted protective relief to Mazari, preventing her arrest in fresh cases.

The court’s directive specifically instructs the Secretary, Inspector General (IG), and Director General (DG) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) not to apprehend Mazari following her release.

The IHC further mandated that the Interior Secretary, as well as the police and FIA, refrain from providing any assistance in the re-arrest of Mazari. Authorities are also required to ensure that Mazari remains within the confines of the capital city.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Fawad denied bail

Concerns about the potential re-arrest of Imaan Mazari were raised by her mother, Shireen Mazari, following her release on bail in a third case. The Interior Secretary has been assigned the task of coordinating with provincial authorities to assess the various cases registered against Mazari by Monday.

It should be noted that the Islamabad Police had previously registered three cases against Imaan Mazari, with two of them resulting in her being granted bail within the capital. However, immediately after obtaining bail from the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in a case related to “interference in state affairs,” she was re-arrested by Islamabad police officials outside Adiala Jail.
