ISLAMABAD: A senior officer of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has been issued a notice for uploading a video on social media, in which he is seen urging people to vote for a particular party in the upcoming general election.

The notice, titled “campaign for a political party being a government servant”, has been sent to Akhtar Mehmunil, the private secretary of the Environment and Disaster Management (E&DM) Directorate of MCI.

The notice states that “a video of you got viral on social media wherein you are persuading/inspiring people to vote a political party in the forthcoming general election being held on February 8, 2024, as announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan.”

“This act on your part reveals your closeness and affection with the said political party while staying in government service, which is a gross violation/deviation of Clause 7.46 Chapter-7 (Conduct) of the CDA Employees Service Regulation-1992, which restrains a government servant from taking part in political activities and elections during service,” the notice says.

“You are therefore being served with an explanation to clear your position behind uploading this unlawful content on social media as prohibited by the Employees Service Regulation-1992. Your reply based on facts should reach the Director (E&DM) within three days positively.

In case of deviation, it would be presumed that you confess the levelled action and are not interested to continue your further service in CDA/MCI and ex-parte action will be taken as per ESR-1995 accordingly,” the notice warns.
