Funeral prayers of ANP leader Maulana Khan Zeb offered


BAJAUR: The funeral prayer of Maulana Khan Zeb, senior leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) and Secretary for Religious Affairs, was offered in his native town of Nawagai on Friday, a day after he was gunned down in Bajaur.

Thousands of mourners, including political activists, tribal elders, and local residents, attended the funeral including ANP provincial president Mian Iftikhar Hussain, senior leader Sardar Hussain Babak, and MNAs from Bajaur.

Emotional scenes were witnessed as Maulana Khan Zeb was laid to rest in his hometown. Tearful attendees paid their final respects to the slain leader.

Earlier in the day, the funeral of police constable Sherzada, who was also killed in the same incident, was also held with a large number of people turning out to honour the fallen officer.

Maulana Khan Zeb and his associate Dr Tariq were killed in a targeted attack by unknown assailants near Shandai Mor, close to Khar Tehsil Headquarters, late Thursday night.

Three others were seriously injured in the firing.

According to sources, Maulana Zeb was actively campaigning for the ANP’s upcoming Aman Pasoon rally, scheduled for July 13 in Bajaur, when he came under attack.

In response, the ANP has announced three days of mourning to honour the memory of the slain leader.
