Former assistant to Nawaz Sharif, Asif Kirmani quits PML-N

ISLAMABAD: Former Special Assistant for Political Affairs to Nawaz Sharif, Asif Kirmani announced his departure from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
A long-time member of the PML-N, Asif Kirmani announced his withdrawal from the party’s political activities. He stated that he has distanced himself from its affairs for some time.
Kirmani cited issues such as inflation and electricity bills affecting people’s lives as reasons for his decision.
Kirmani added that he plans to release a detailed statement soon.

Asif Kirmani has held the position of Member of the Senate since July 2017. His political journey includes notable roles such as Minister of State for Political Affairs and Special Assistant for Political Affairs to Nawaz Sharif in 2015.
Kirmani’s family has been involved in Pakistani politics for decades. He is the son of Ahmad Saeed Kirmani, a prominent leader during the Pakistan Movement.
This background shaped his career within the PML-N, where he has been a long-term member and contributor.

In the 2018 Senate elections, Kirmani was nominated by the PML-N but ran as an independent candidate due to a Supreme Court ruling affecting party nominations. He successfully secured re-election as an independent senator from Punjab and subsequently aligned himself with the PML-N’s treasury benches.
Beyond his political commitments, Kirmani is also a successful businessman.
