Energy Minister reveals energy sector’s massive deficit of Rs 5400 bn

ISLAMABAD: The interim Energy Minister Muhammad Ali said that despite the increase in electricity tariffs, the government was actively working to lessen the impact on consumers.

While talking to the media, Ali emphasised that all possible measures were being taken to reduce electricity prices.

The energy minister further said that the power sector confronted significant financial challenges with a deficit of PKR2500 billion. He added: “The gas industry is also experiencing losses, totaling PKR2900 billion, further straining the nation’s energy landscape”.

He told the media that the energy sector collectively faced a staggering deficit of PKR5400 billion, as stated by Muhammad Ali.
