Cipher case: FIA submits challan against PTI chairman, Qureshi

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday submitted a challan in the cipher case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

The challan, called upon the court to proceed with their trial and to impose appropriate sentencing upon them in connection with the case.

According to Geo News, the list of accused individuals does not include the former PTI secretary-general, Asad Umar. Meanwhile, Azam Khan, the former principal secretary of the PTI chairman, has been designated as a “key witness” in the case.

Both Khan and Qureshi are currently detained on judicial remand in the cipher case until September 26.

Last month, the FIA charged the PTI chief and his party’s vice chairman under the Official Secrets Act for alleged mishandling and misuse of classified documents for political gain.

Subsequently, both leaders were arrested as part of the investigation, and a special court was established under the Official Secrets Act to conduct the trial.
