ASP Shehrbano Naqvi honored with Asia 21 Next Generation fellowship

LAHORE: Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi has been selected for the prestigious Asia 21 Next Generation Fellowship, making history as the first female police officer from Pakistan to receive this honor.
The announcement was made by a spokesperson for the Punjab Police, after the Asia Society published the list of selected fellows for the latest cohort.

Naqvi was chosen by the Asia Society as part of its Class of 2025 in recognition of her tireless efforts to protect vulnerable communities and work toward systemic change within Pakistan’s policing framework.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, 30 exceptional individuals from 27 countries were considered for the fellowship, which seeks to spotlight emerging leaders from across Asia who demonstrate outstanding leadership and commitment to social impact.
The Asia 21 Next Generation Summit, where Naqvi and other fellows will convene to present actionable solutions to some of society’s pressing challenges, is scheduled to take place in Manila, Philippines, from December 5 to 7, 2025.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar extended his congratulations to ASP Shehrbano Naqvi, lauding her achievement as a proud moment for both Pakistan and the Punjab Police. “Her selection not only brings international recognition to our force but also highlights the growing role of women in transforming law enforcement in Pakistan,” he said.
Naqvi’s inclusion in this global network of changemakers is seen as a significant step in fostering cross-border collaboration and enhancing Pakistan’s representation in international leadership circles.

ASP Shehrbano Naqvi had shot up to fame in March 2024, when an angry mob in Ichhra Lahore had attacked a woman for wearing clothes that supported Urdu script. Since then, she has been rewarded with the Quaid-e-Azam medal for valour and has also been entrusted with multiple important appointments within the ranks of police force, which she has fulfilled with competence and courage.
