9th Muharram being observed today with solemnity

ISLAMABAD: The 9th of Muharram-ul-Haram is being observed across the country today (Saturday) with solemnity to honour the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.

The government has announced public holidays on July 5 and 6 to allow citizens to participate in religious gatherings and processions.

Majalis are being held in cities and towns, while processions of Tazia and Alam are being taken out in several areas.

Tight security arrangements have been put in place to prevent any untoward incident.

One killed, several injured in Muharram procession clash in Gilgit

In Karachi, the main procession is starting from Nishtar Park. In Lahore, it is beginning from Pando Street. Major processions are also being held in Quetta, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. In Islamabad, the central procession will begin from Sector G-6.

Security personnel including police, Rangers, and male and female scouts have been deployed along the procession routes. Traditional sabeels (refreshment stalls) have also been set up.

Meanwhile, on the instructions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, a mobile control room has been established in Islamabad for the first time to strengthen the Ashura security plan.

The mobile control room can function even without mobile network signals, ensuring seamless surveillance and communication throughout the event.
