11 injured as car runs over sleeping homeless people in Karachi

KARACHI: Eleven people were injured when a speeding car ran over homeless people sleeping on a footpath in Karachi’s Clifton area.
According to rescue sources, the accident happened near Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine in Clifton, Karachi, where a car skidded off the road and ran over homeless people sleeping on the footpath, injuring 11 people, at least five critically.
The injured were rushed to the Jinnah Hospital by the rescue teams.
The authorities swiftly took the driver, identified as Jabir, into custody following the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the mishap occurred as Jabir attempted to avoid a car approaching from the wrong side of the road.
In his bid to evade a collision, Jabir lost control of his vehicle, leading to the tragic event.
Special protection unit expanded to enhance security for Chinese nationals
Eyewitnesses described the horrifying scene as the car veered out of control, plowing into innocent pedestrians who were sleeping on the footpath.
Six individuals have been discharged from the hospital after receiving necessary medical treatment, as confirmed by the police.
However, the condition of five others remains critical, requiring intensive care and continuous medical attention.
Last year, more than 1,400 people lost their lives and over 18,000 were wounded in road accidents in Karachi in 2023.
