Zindagi Tamasha finally gets a release date

ISLAMABAD: Highly anticipated movie Zindagi Tamasha is set to be premiered worldwide on August 4  on Khoosat Films’ YouTube channel.

Director Sarmad Khoosat, during his interview, urged audiences to approach the movie with an open heart, separating the film from the controversies and critiquing it based on its merits and demerits.

Zindagi Tamasha has received international acclaim earned multiple awards after being selected as Pakistan’s official entry for the Oscars. It’s path to local audiences was fraught with difficulties due to protests by religious groups, despite receiving clearance from all three censor boards.

While talking to the media, Khoosat acknowledged that the movie’s struggles were not just his own but also a reflection of the system’s failure to support independent voices.

“I invested a considerable amount of money in this film. There’s a monetary loss, but it’s been four years, and there’s only so much I can do about it. I’ve decided to be patient about it,” said Khoosat.

The Kamli director said that the movie will not have a theatrical release and will be available for viewers on YouTube and Vimeo. He assured that the YouTube version adheres to regulations, and a director’s cut will also be offered on Vimeo.

The media reports said that Khoosat asked viewers not to share unauthorised copies of the film through torrents.

Zindagi Tamasha had faced setbacks when Tehreek-e-Labbaik Party (TLP) workers protested its theatrical release in 2020. The Federal Ministry of Information & Broadcasting intervened leading to an indefinite delay.

The movie revolves around the life of a devout elderly man from Lahore whose life is disrupted when a video featuring him goes viral on social media. Highly anticipated movie features an ensemble cast including Samiya Mumtaz, Eman Suleman, Adeel Afzal, Arif Hassan and Ali Kureshi.
