Veteran actress Ayesha Khan found dead in Karachi apartment

WEB DESK: Renowned actress Ayesha Khan was discovered deceased in her apartment in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighborhood, police confirmed on Friday.

According to authorities body had been in the flat for approximately a week. The actress, who lived alone, was found after neighbors alerted her family about a foul odour coming from her residence. Police subsequently arrived at the scene and transported her body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities.

Later, the deceased were moved to the Edhi Foundation’s mortuary in Sohrab Goth. Officials stated that a post-mortem examination would be conducted upon her family’s request.

The timing and location of her funeral prayers will be disclosed in due course.

A Legendary Career

Born in 1948, Ayesha Khan was the elder sister of actress Khalida Riasat and enjoyed a prolific career spanning over five decades. She delivered unforgettable performances in classic PTV dramas such as Afshan, Uroosa, Aanch, Bandhan, and Shaam Se Pehle.

One of her most iconic roles was in Afshan, where she portrayed a resilient woman separated from her husband and brother during the Partition. Her character raised both her own child and her brother’s daughter, Afshan, while awaiting her husband’s return, a performance that left a lasting impact on audiences.

Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council of Pakistan, expressed deep sorrow over her passing, calling it a “great loss for Pakistan’s drama industry.” He highlighted her five-decade-long contribution to acting, leaving behind a rich legacy in Pakistani television.

She would often appear in dramas in roles of a mother or a grandmother and had her own distinct style of presenting a traditional role.
