Thousands of Afghans refugees leave for home; 300 leave for Canada

ISLAMABAD: In a noteworthy development, Pakistani authorities facilitated the repatriation of nearly 3,000 Afghan migrants on Tuesday, November 21, reflecting a slight increase compared to the previous day’s figures.
The total number of Afghans sent back to Afghanistan has now reached 243,165, with 2,990 people deported yesterday and 2,292 individuals deported on November 20.
Pakistan has recently introduced a new documentation system along its international border with Afghanistan. The initiative aims to formalise border crossings, enhancing transparency in movement, according to local media reports.

Simultaneously, US Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West, reiterated the United States’ commitment to supporting the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in their collaborative efforts to assist Afghan returnees and address immediate needs.
West emphasised, “Fully agree that returnees deserve safety, respect, protection,” highlighting the significance of providing comprehensive support to those returning to Afghanistan.
In a related development, 316 Afghan nationals have successfully arrived in Toronto via a charter flight from Pakistan, as confirmed by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This underscores the collaborative international efforts to address the complex challenges associated with the repatriation process and the resettlement of Afghan refugees.
