Indiana: A mother of two in the United States passed away after consuming an excessive amount of water too quickly, as confirmed by her family.
Ashley Summers was enjoying a trip to Indiana’s Lake Freeman when she began to feel dehydrated and light-headed. She attempted to rehydrate by drinking multiple bottles of water within a short period. However, upon returning home, she collapsed in her garage.
Her family quickly took her to hospital but unfortunately, she never regained consciousness and succumbed to water toxicity.
“It was a shock to all of us. When they first started talking about water toxicity. It was like this is a thing?” her brother told an international news media outlet.
“Someone said she drank four bottles of water in 20 minutes. I mean, an average water bottle is like 16 ounces, so that was 64 ounces that she drank in a span of 20 minutes. That’s half a gallon. That’s what you’re supposed to drink in a whole day,” he added.
Consuming an excessive amount of water within a brief period can result in water intoxication, a condition characterised by an imbalance in electrolytes.
